On June 9th, shortly after 9:00 p.m., several Madison Police officers responded to a burglary in progress at Blueprint Sports & Urban Wear, 745 S. Gammon Road. Two men witnessed the crime, and they were now holding the suspect on the ground. He turned out to be an eight-year old boy. The burglar explained that he and two older boys had ridden bikes to the store. The 11-year old, reportedly, used a brick to smash out a window, which triggered an audible alarm. The 11-year old, and a 13-year old co-conspirator fled, but the younger boy felt compelled to stay and go inside, because the 13-year old had threatened to beat him up if he did not get the teen a new pair of shoes. The boy was crying and bleeding while telling officers of the crime, as he had received numerous cuts from jagged glass while entering and exiting the store. He was caught with a box containing shoes, and said he did not target a specific pair rather he grabbed one of the first boxes he saw. Madison Fire arrived, and an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) cleaned the wounds. The older suspects were arrested later at their homes. |
