On Monday morning Mr. William F. Williams, age 57, Madison, was arrested for Substantial Battery. Mr. Williams was spotted by a Madison Police officer near Lake Wingra and taken into custody. Detectives had developed information prior to the contact that Mr. Williams was the suspect in the Peace Park disturbance. The case detective is still seeking more witnesses to the crime.

The case detective says two acquaintances were having a disagreement while standing on the sidewalk in front of Peace Park just after 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. One threw a single punch, which resulted in the 54-year old victim being taken to a hospital with a significant head injury. He remains in critical condition. The Madison Police Department is looking to speak with witnesses to the crime. Anyone with information is urged to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014. Investigators are attempting to identify, and arrest a suspect.
