| Details |
Early Friday morning, around 1:50 a.m., two concerned men called for police after witnessing someone pulling a rifle from a trench coat. The suspect had been chasing a man who evidently had stolen a bar stool from a Regent Street tavern. Police were told the suspect was now back inside the bar. Officers entered and ordered him to the ground at gunpoint. He had, in his trench coat, a paintball gun, which had no markings on it that would indicate it was not real. The suspect also was in possession of a knife. He did not believe he had done anything wrong, explaining he was a former bar employee and he was just trying to stop the stool thief. Officers explained that pulling the gun out frightened passersby, and that was why he was getting a disorderly conduct ticket. He was also cited for carrying a concealed weapon, which was because of the knife.
This weekend, of course, is Freakfest, and the Madison Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind celebrants that no weapons - either real or fake - will be tolerated at the party. So, for instance, if you are coming as a cowpoke, or cowgirl, you best leave your six-shooter cap gun at home. Officers will confiscate such items at the party. |
