The team McFadden, Zillman, and Sheets collaborated on creating a art piece that evokes the united hands of a team coming together to show their solidarity and determination to work together. Members of the community met with the artists on several occasions to give input into the development of this piece. Neighborhood residents also served as the arm models for the sculpture. The sculpture was created for the center plaza of the Revival Ridge housing redevelopment, a project of the Community Development Authority (CDA). Community was equally funded by MAC and the CDA.
When I look around here, I don't see a sculpture. I see the dozens of children who's hands are represented here. I hope they walk through here often, and remind themselves that this is not just a statue etched in stone. It is a living, breathing reminder that we should never give up. Things can get pretty bad for some families in this community, but we can't give up. I hope every person who sees this remembers to reach for the stars.
- Alderperson Brian Solomon speaking about the sculpture on the occasion of the dedication on August 6, 2009
