Under Flow

By: Gail Simpson

Installed Fall 2005 at the Madison Water Utility Building

Simpson has created a stainless steel upright cone divided into three offset sections, plus six granite boulders set into the middle two tiers of the fountain in front of the Water Utility Building.

“This sculpture was inspired by the idea of water moving underground. Two aquifers run under the Madison area so I interrupted the cone twice: the offset sections are based on the refraction of light that causes a pencil in a glass of water to appear broken.”
