100th mile: Madison's Water Main Replacement Program hits major milestone

September 18, 2017 9:39 AM

Replacing or re-lining our aging pipes is not easy or cheap, but it is necessary to provide safe and reliable water to our residents. Madison Water Utility has been working on a Water Main Replacement Program since 2005 and have reached the 100th mile!

Although we still have many more miles of pipe to replace, a celebration was held on Yuma drive to mark this milestone. Neighbors, students from Thoreau Elementary and MWU employees gathered and were able to sign a section of the pipe before it went into the ground.

I would like to thank everyone for the hard work they have put into this project so far and will continue to do so throughout the duration of this enormous project. Madison's public health, safety and economic well-being are in good hands with our MWU staff.
