C-SPAN Comes to Madison

October 22, 2014 1:36 PM

It has been great to welcome and host a C-SPAN crew in Madison this week. Producer Debbie Lamb and her staff have been meeting with historians, regular Madisonians and local authors as they prepare numerous segments on Madison as part of their 2014 Cities Tour. Many thanks to Charter Communications who brought C-SPAN to Madison. I was pleased to join with Charter staff and local historian and author David Mollenhoff this week as we welcomed C-SPAN at an event at Monona Terrace.

The C-SPAN visit basically takes Book TV and American History TV on the road and will introduce Madison, its history and some of its many authors to a national audience the weekend of November 15-16. I don't know all the details of the production but I do know they will include segments on the Native Americans who settled in this area, information on the early years of the city, the strife during the Viet Nam War and information about some of our favorite sons like Frank Lloyd Wright.

When Producer Debbie Lamb talked about the project at our Common Council meeting she told the audience she had such a great time in Madison that she just might move here! We know she was joking, but it was good to hear. Thanks to everyone who made her and her crew feel so welcome.

Programming recorded in Madison will air on Book TV/C-SPAN2 Charter channels 76 and 997, and 742 in HD and American History TV/C-SPAN3 Charter channels 88 and 996, and 743 in HD on November 15 and 16, 2014. C-SPAN is available in Madison on Charter channels 12 and 740 in HD.
