I was so pleased to be part of the honor and commendation extended to Dr. Frank Byrne at this week's Common Council meeting. Dr. Byrne recently retired after ten years at President of St. Mary's Hospital. In his role he oversaw incredible growth at the facility, including the opening of the St. Mary's Sun Prairie Emergency Center, the addition of the Ronald McDonald Family room at St. Mary's and the $1.3 million endowment for nursing education. Dr. Byrne however was more than a hospital administrator, he was an ambassador for St. Mary's and for the entire City of Madison. I first met him over breakfast at The Curve restaurant on South Park Street and I know many other meetings were also held there. He never forgets a face or a name and has a gracious greeting for all of us. The City of Madison is very fortunate that Frank and his wife Cindy plan to continue to live in Madison. I know they will continue to be active members of our community. Congratulations Frank and thank you for all you have done!
