Volunteers to Make Over Vacant Apartments for Homeless Families

February 23, 2016 8:55 PM

I am looking forward to joining with United Way Executive Director Renee Moe this Saturday as we thank volunteers who are cleaning and painting eight 3-bedroom vacant apartment units on the city's East side.  The units, owned by the City of Madison Community Development Authority (CDA) are being prepared for homeless families.

This is a great partnership between the City, United Way, and Meridian Group.  Meridian Group is managing the apartments and will supply appliances, fixtures and other needed components. Housing First Families are working with case managers through The Road Home, Salvation Army, YWCA Madison and the East Madison Community Center to work with families as they move into, and hopefully thrive, in their  new homes.

Feel free to join us at the intersection of Anderson and Wright Streets, near  Madison College beginning at 9:00 Saturday, February 27.  Volunteers will be cleaning in the morning, and after a break for lunch, painting in the afternoon.
