Aluminum Man

I love the annual Ironman competition in Madison. I don't do the swim. I don't do the bike ride. I don't do the run. But I do show up at the carbo load on Friday night. And the following morning I'll do the Fit Kids Run around the Capitol Square. I traditionally finish that race respectably in the middle of the pack.
The Ironman is a great event for Madison. Its 2,200 competitors, their 30,000 or so family and friends and people who show up just to watch pump $2.3 million Into our local economy. But even more than that Ironman week is just fun. The city is crawling with fit, happy people running on our paths, biking on our streets and walking around taking in our city.
I will never be an Ironman athlete. But I do run a little and bike a little and carbo load every chance I get. I am more Aluminum Man than Ironman. But I have a lot of respect for people who work so hard to accomplish anything and they inspire me to get out there and try. Best wishes to all of them for a safe and enjoyable day on Sunday in Madison.
