The City of Madison is often listed in national magazines as being a great place to live, a safe city with a healthy population. Mayor Dave Cieslewicz wants to add to that list...that Madison is also a green city. With Madison’s hip, smart, environmentally conscious citizenry, this is an achievable goal.

This summer the mayor announced the formation of an Energy Task Force, with one of its main goals to develop and help implement strategies of energy efficiencies, conservation and green building design. Of course, the most logical place to begin this work is at the city itself, to have the City of Madison be seen as a model for the rest of the community, the region and the state.

To begin this work, members of the Conservation & Green Building Subcommittee of the Mayor's Energy Task Force. will be asked to:

  • Review past city activities related to energy efficiency and conservation in city facilities.
  • Develop an implementation plan for further activities related to energy efficiency and conservation in city facilities.
  • Review opportunities for building a "green building" in future city facilities.
  • Investigate opportunities for "green buildings" with private developers
  • Research grant funding sources.
  • Consider the development of materials that would educate developers about energy efficient and green building technologies and encourage their use.

The Mayor’s office and staff at the City of Madison look forward to working on this project with members of the Conservation & Green Building Subcommittee of the Mayor's Energy
Task Force
