Service Changes Approved

Service changes listed below have been approved by the Madison Transit and Parking Commission and will go into effect on Sunday, August 28.

Adjustments are to address increased passenger loads and levels of traffic congestion as well as improve timed connections between routes.

Updated System Maps and Ride Guides are expected to be available at mymetrobus.com at the end of July. Paper versions will be available in the middle of August.

UPCOMING changes

Route 2:

During the morning rush hour, eastbound service has been supplemented with additional trips to create 15 minute frequency between Sheboygan Ave. and the Capitol Square until 10:07 AM to ease overcrowding.

Afternoon westbound service will continue to be supplemented with extra buses on an as needed basis.

Route 3:

The 11:30 PM, eastbound trip from the West Transfer Point to the East Transfer Point would shift 15 minutes earlier to depart at 11:15 PM.

Route 10:

Schedule adjustments to better phase service with Routes 28 and 38 during service transition periods.

Route 15:

The 7:46 AM trip that originates at the corner of Sheboygan and Eau Claire will be reallocated as a trip on Route 2 at 7:52 AM.

The 9:00 AM trip that originates at the corner of Sheboygan and Eau Claire avenues will be recast as a “gray shaded trip”.

Gray shaded trips only operate when UW classes are in session.

Route 18:

Off-peak and weekend trips that operate via Coho would be removed from Gilbert Rd., Hammersley Rd. and Reetz Rd., between Whitney Way and Raymond Rd. Trips via Coho would be revised to operate on Whitney Way and Raymond Rd. between the Beltline and Verona Rd.

In the area between the bus stop locations at the intersections of Raymond Rd. at Reetz Rd. and Whitney Way at Hamersley Rd., buses would only stop at the intersection of Whitney Way at Raymond Rd. No other stops would be made along Raymond Rd. or this portion of Whitney Way.

Off-peak and weekend trips that operate via Coho, departing the South Transfer Point, would be removed from Badger Rd. and Fish Hatchery Rd. north of the Beltline. Westbound trips via Coho would be revised to operated on Park St. and the Beltline between the South Transfer Point and Fish Hatchery Rd.

Changes are to improve on-time performance. (See map on reverse)

Note: No changes proposed for Route 18 via Midvale trips.

Route 36:

Removal of trips with little to no ridership. These include first 2 trips on weekday schedule and the last departure (7:40 PM) from East Towne Mall on the holiday schedule.

Route 37:

Significant modification of schedule. Certain trips on Route 37 are proposed to be reallocated as additional service on Route 2 trips west of Park St. to alleviate overloading on Route 2.

Route 38:

The 5:41 AM trip that starts at Buckeye Rd. and Monona Dr. has been eliminated due to very low ridership.

The 9:53 AM trip that originates at Jenifer and Ingersoll streets has been eliminated in lieu of service on other routes.

Running times have been reviewed and adjusted to accommodate the route’s expansion south of Pflaum Rd. and improve on-time performance.

Route 50:

To improve on-time performance, trips would be removed from Gilbert Rd., Hammersley Rd. and Raymond Rd, east of Whitney Way.

Trips would be revised to operate on Whitney Way between the Beltline and Raymond Rd.

Route 56:

The 6:38 AM, westbound trip from the West Transfer Point has been eliminated due to lack of ridership.

Route 57:

The 5:49 and 6:20 AM, westbound trips from the West Transfer Point have been eliminated due to lack of ridership.

Route 73:

The 11:04 PM, inbound trip from Deming Way and Gialamas Way to the West Transfer Point would depart twelve minutes earlier at 10:52 PM.

Extra Gray Shaded Trips:

Due to low ridership during these periods, extra gray shaded trips on Routes 2, 14, 15, 28, 37, 38 would not operate when the UW is not in session. Base schedules on these routes would not be affected.
