CLEAN AIR ACTION DAYS: Up to 5 Days of Free Rides
Watch for Clean Air Action Day Notices

During up to five days each summer, Metro helps reduce ground-level ozone by providing free fixed-route rides.

Free-ride Clean Air Action days are announced one day ahead of when weather indications indicate ozone levels will reach a high level. Watch or listen for Clean Air Action Days announcements on your favorite TV or radio station or posted at mymetrobus.com or cityofmadison.com.

Frequent Rider Appreciation

Metro would like to recognize its frequent riders who do their part to maintain local air quality and reduce traffic congestion throughout the year.

10-Ride Card Users:

Ride free on Clean Air Action Days without using your 10-Ride Card.

31-Day Pass, Paratransit and Program Pass Users:

During the week of a Clean Air Action Day, bring your activated 31-day pass, your current program pass from the University of Wisconsin, UW-Hospital, St. Marys Hospital, MATC, Edgewood College,  or an ADA paratransit eligibility card to the Metro main office reception desk (located at 1101 E. Washington Ave.) and receive a FREE pass/ticket holder!

UPCOMING SERVICE CHANGES
Effective: Sunday, October 5

Metro will implement route and service changes October 5, 2008.

Final service changes include recommendations presented at a public hearing on April 15 affecting Routes 2, 5, 11, 13, 16, 18, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 33, 36, 40, 56, 57, 58, 67, 70, 73, 78, and * 80.

The funding issue for Route 13 service in the Town of Madison has been resolved. Service will be updated to reflect “Option 2” as presented to the Transit and Parking Commission and posted on blue bus flyers in May.

This option eliminates direct service to the Capitol Square with buses only traveling as far as Lake St. Service will remain south of Olin Ave.

Updated Ride Guides and System Maps will be available in August.

* Route 80 Service Note: Route 80 updates will go into effect in August. More information will be available soon on bus flyers and posted at mymetrobus.com.

ROUTE 5 DETOUR: Wingra Dr. Closure
Now in Effect

Due to a utility project, Wingra Dr. is closed between Beld St. and Park St.

Bus stop ID # 0901 on Wingra Dr. at Park St. is closed. Passengers are directed to board southbound Route 5 buses on Beld St. at the railroad tracks (Stop ID# 0588).

Route 5 buses also are not able to serve stop ID # 0890 on southbound Park St. before Beld St. A temporary stop is available on Beld St. south of Park St.

This detour is expected to last through the end of September.

ROUTE 44 DETOUR: Construction
Now in Effect

Chapel Valley Rd. is closed for resurfacing. Route 44 buses detour via Triverton Pike Rd. between McKee Rd. and Brendan Ave.

Passengers are directed to temporary stops on Triverton Pike Rd. at McKee Rd.

This detour is expected to last through the middle of July.

ROUTES 3, 4, 7 & 38 DETOUR: Jenifer St. Detour
Now in Effect

Jenifer St. is closed between Livingston St. and Williamson St. due to a construction project.

Routes 3, 4, 7 and 38 detour via Paterson and Williamson streets during the closure, which is expected to last through the middle of August.

Westbound passengers are directed to stops on Jenifer St. at Paterson St. (Stop ID # 1536) and Williamson St. at Blount St. (Stop ID # 1480).

Eastbound passengers are directed to stops on Williamson St. at Jenifer St. (Stop ID # 1509) or on Jenifer St. at Paterson St. (temporary stop placed farside of the intersection).

ROUTE 18 DETOUR: From Britta Pkwy.
Now in Effect

Route 18 detours from Britta Pkwy. Buses travel on Helene Pkwy., Crawford Dr., and Whenona Dr.

Passengers are directed to bus stops on Helene Pkwy. at Britta Pkwy. (Stop ID # 4582 and #4085)

This detour will be in effect through July 11.

CAPITOL LOOP DETOUR: Construction
Now in Effect

Due to construction, buses are permanently on the Capitol Loop throughout the rest of the summer and into the Fall.

Routes operate one block from the Capitol Square on Doty, Webster, Dayton and Fairchild streets.

Buses are expected to return to the Capitol Square in October.

ROUTES 18 & 19 DETOUR: Crescent Rd. Construction
Now in Effect

Route 18 via Midvale follows the same routing on Allied Drive, Lovell Ln. and Frontage Rd. as Route 18 via Reetz.

Route 19 travels northbound on Allied Dr. during AM service and southbound on Allied Dr. during PM service.

This detour is expected to last through the middle of August.

ROUTES 11, 28, 38, 44 (AM) DETOUR: Charter St. Construction
Now in Effect

Due to a construction project, the northbound bus stop on Charter St is closed. Stops 0532, 0184 and 0488 on westbound Linden Dr. are not served by these routes during the detour (but will continue to be served by Route 80).

This detour is expected to last into August.

ROUTE 14, 15 & 39 DETOUR: Buckeye Rd. Reconstruction
Now in Effect

Due to the closure of the Buckeye Rd. bridge over Interstate 90 for reconstruction work, Routes 14, 15 and 39 have been realigned and some schedule times shifted in the area east of the East Transfer Point.

This service realignment permits continued bus service to the Richmond Hill subdivision along Cottontail Trail, but only with trips once every 30 minutes.

Passengers departing from the Kings Mill neighborhood in the AM are only be able to ride realigned Route 14 trips.

Passengers returning to the Kings Mill neighborhood in the PM are only be able to ride realigned Route 15 trips.

Passengers riding to or from bus stops south of Cottage Grove Rd., between Stoughton Rd. and the Interstate, should also review this service realignment information as trips may be affected.

This detour is expected to last into September.

Due to construction, Route 7 via Monroe/Odana buses detour from Monroe St. between Regent St. and Randall Ave.

BUS STOP CLOSED: Wednesday Farmers' Market
Wednesdays; Start of Service through 2:00 PM

During the Wednesday Farmers Market, Routes 1, 11 & 19 will not be able to serve the bus stop on MLK Jr. Blvd in front of the City-County Bldg (ID # 1872) from the start of service through 2 PM.

Routes 1, 11 & 19 passengers are directed to board these routes at either the Main St. at Carroll St. stop (ID # 1101) or on Wilson St. at MLK Jr. Blvd. (ID # 1486).

LOWER STATE ST. DETOUR: Summer Construction
Now in Effect

Routes 4, 6 & 29 detour from the lower blocks of State St. Routes 4, 6 & 29 use Johnson and Gorham streets. Routes 81 & 82 detour via Gorham St., University Ave., and Lake St.

This detour is expected to last into September.

ROUTE 4 DETOUR: Fifth St. Closure
Now in Effect

The intersection of Fifth St and Winnebago St. is closed as part of a reconstruction project on Fifth St., Sixth St., and Winnebago St.

Route 4 buses detour to Fourth St. in both directions between Winnebago St. and East Washington Ave.

Temporary bus stops are available in both directions on Fourth St. at the railroad tracks. This detour is expected to last through June.

BUS STOP CLOSED: Charter St. at Johnson St.
Now in Effect

Due to safety concerns, bus stop #0490 on southbound Charter St. at Johnson St. has been closed.

Passengers are directed to use bus stops on Johnson St. at Mills St. (# 0741) or on Charter St. between Linden Dr. & University Ave. (#0706).

Stop #0490 on Charter St. and Johnson St. will reopen once the safety issues have been addressed.
