Metro Transit serves residential neighborhoods, the Isthmus, schools and universities, in Madison, Middleton, Fitchburg, Verona, and the Town of Madison.

In 2011, more than 14.9 million rides were recorded on Metro Transit, a 9.5% increase over the last year!

These numbers are Metro’s highest ridership ever recorded, outpacing 13.9 million rides in 1979. This is in keeping with a trend of increased mass transit ridership across the country that has grown by 31% in the last 15 years. Metro’s ridership in that same period has grown 44%.

In 2012, Metro Transit received the Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award,
sponsored by American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

APTA presented this award to three systems in North America that demonstrated outstanding achievement in efficiency and effectiveness over the previous three-year period. Metro will received the award in the division that provides more than 4 million but less than 20 million passenger trips annually.
