Congratulations to our Dump the Pump Contest Winners! Dump the Pump June 20

In honor of Dump the Pump Day, Metro wanted you to share your story! In response, Metro received many stories about the awesome benefits of Dumping the Pump with Metro Transit.

June Everson's story:

"There are so many reasons why I like taking the bus instead of driving.   It is so easy and relaxing.  The bus I take comes on time - It bypasses the transfer stations and makes limited stops.  It doesn’t take much longer than if I drove and had to walk from the parking ramp.  The bus drivers are friendly and helpful for anyone having questions or needing assistance.

Then there is the obvious, the environment is helped by having fewer cars on the road so less emissions.  My pocketbook is also helped.  There is big savings in not having to pay for daily parking for my car and not having to fill the gas tank so often.

However the number one reason I like taking the bus is because it is so relaxing.  When I drive, I get impatient and frustrated by the traffic congestion.  Rush hour is bad enough but sometimes a train is added in.  After the long train passes, the traffic is barely moving.  Then there is major construction that causes severe traffic back-ups.  When I take the bus, I rarely notice how bad the traffic is.  I either take a nap or talk to other passengers.  Regular bus riders get to know other bus riders and you can have some interesting conversations.  When I get to work I feel very relaxed and I’m in a good mood.   I can’t say that is true when I drive."

Thank you for your story submissions!

Dump the pump day

National Dump the Pump Day is a day that public transportation systems nationwide encourage individuals to ride public transportation rather than driving as a way to save money and remain environmentally friendly.

Did you know:

  • that a two-person household that downsizes to one car can save as much as $9,700 a year?
  • every year public transportation reduces our nation’s carbon emissions by 37 million metric tons?
  • Every $1 billion invested in public transportation creates and supports 36,000 jobs?

Go Green! Ride Metro.

Recent studies show that one of the most signicant actions people can take to reduce their carbon footprint is to reduce their driving.

Riding the bus helps to create a healthier environment by reducing smog-producing pollutants and greenhouse gases.

Through the use of hybrid buses, ultra-low sulfur fuel its use of and Green Power, Metro takes that effort even further. Learn more.
