Congratulations to our Dump the Pump Contest Winners! Dump the Pump June 20

In honor of Dump the Pump Day, Metro wanted you to share your story! In response, Metro received many stories about the awesome benefits of Dumping the Pump with Metro Transit.

Tatyana Brown's story:

"I am a part-time college student with two jobs, and I depend on Madison Metro as a major way of transportation. It is the simplest, cheapest and greenest way of getting around. I depend on the bus to get to work, school and back home. If I had an extra $9,700 I'd be able to do all the things I've ever wanted to do; travel to Australia, and maybe go on a cruise to the Bahamas. I would buy my first apartment and have eight months of rent already paid for. Or, I could even start my freelance photography/videography career by purchasing my first Digital SLR, lighting, backdrops, tripods and studio space. With that money I could do so much, but until that day comes, you shall see me riding the bus everywhere, because Madison Metro is my green light to everything the great city of Madison has to offer."

Thank you for your story submissions!

Dump the pump day

National Dump the Pump Day is a day that public transportation systems nationwide encourage individuals to ride public transportation rather than driving as a way to save money and remain environmentally friendly.

Did you know:

  • that a two-person household that downsizes to one car can save as much as $9,700 a year?
  • every year public transportation reduces our nation’s carbon emissions by 37 million metric tons?
  • Every $1 billion invested in public transportation creates and supports 36,000 jobs?

DEDICATION TO GREEN ENERGY

Go Green! Ride Metro.

Recent studies show that one of the most signicant actions people can take to reduce their carbon footprint is to reduce their driving.

Riding the bus helps to create a healthier environment by reducing smog-producing pollutants and greenhouse gases.

Through the use of hybrid buses, ultra-low sulfur fuel its use of and Green Power, Metro takes that effort even further. Learn more.
