farebox updatesNew Fareboxes Now Installed

Metro has installed a new farebox system on all buses.

New fareboxes accept cash and all Metro fare items* except paper Quik Tix. Learn more.

* Older printings of certain 31-day passes and 10-ride cards are not compatible with new equipment. Make an Exchange

Like using a vending machine, please use bills that are flat and free of wrinkles.


There are some small changes to be aware of:


  • The area to slide pass is located in a slightly different place.

  • Passes can now be swiped both left to right and right to left.

  • The slot to insert a 10-ride card or 31-day pass for validation is located on the farebox and not on a separate trim unit.
