Planned New Bus Stop Locations

Monroe St. is scheduled for reconstruction in 2018.

To improve safety and schedule reliability, Metro staff proposed the relocation and elimination of certain stops to go into effect after the project has been completed.

Proposed stop placements were discussed at a public hearing in front of the Madison Transit and Parking Commission in July of 2017.

After reviewing feedback from the public hearing and neighborhood meetings, adjustments were made, and the stop placements were finalized.

See map below for Metro stop locations on Monroe St. that will go into effect following the 2018 street reconstruction project.

Notes:

  • To address pedestrian safety concerns, most stops will be located ‘far-side’ or after intersections. This increases visibility for drivers and pedestrians while crossing Monroe St.

  • There are fewer stops than current arrangement, which helps to improve bus on-time performance.

  • Average walking distance between stop locations is roughly 2.5 blocks or 1,000 feet.
