This Summer Pack Your Bags, Put Your Feet Up and Enjoy the Ride
“Travel Like a Local” contest offers vacationers who chose to ride public transit chances to win
Washington, DC- This summer more than 100 million vacationers are expected to plan a trip to the city, and rather than driving their own vehicles, renting a car or taking a taxi the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is asking them to do what many locals chose to do everyday- take public transportation. APTA is sponsoring “Travel Like a Local”, a contest that encourages travelers to try local public transit systems while on vacation.
The contest held via social media aims to show the many benefits of public transportation, while allowing participants to share experiences. Whether you are looking for culture, history, sports, entertainment or just enjoying the hustle and bustle of a city public transportation offers a safe, reliable and affordable alternative to driving.
Of those visiting cities this summer nearly 60 percent said they would be using local public transit. Avoid the hassle of navigating your way through an unfamiliar city, finding a parking spot, or spending money on taxis. Most public transportation systems have high frequency routes that are designed to stop at the most popular spots and attractions a city has to offer.
The contest, which is now open, will run through Labor Day. Prizes include monthly drawings for $100 gift cards, and two grand prize travel vouchers awarded at the conclusion of the contest.
