On Tuesday 4/8, the Madison Common Council will consider an ordinance to permit operation of Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV). A NEV is an all-electric street-legal 25-MPH vehicle designed for use in a neighborhood or on campus. They meet all federal safety guidelines and can travel 35-50 miles on a charge.
The ordinance sponsors and several city departments have teamed up with two local NEV dealers to provide a test drive event for Alders, the Mayor and other city staff before the Council meeting. This will provide an opportunity to learn about these green vehicles first hand, experience them in real traffic conditions, and ask questions of the experts.
The test drive will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in front of the City-County Building on Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd., and will follow a route we're calling the "Madison Mile." (see link http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=10139477199730130793,43.07...)
The participating dealers providing vehicles are Green Autos of Janesville and Ozee Cars of Stoughton.Contacts:
