A family of four is safe tonight after a smoky fire in the basement of their home. City of Madison firefighters were called to 2 Rustic Ridge Court this evening at 6:02. Neighbors who saw smoke from basement windows called 911. One person was home at the time of the fire. He escaped without injury.
Engine Company 5 arrived to find the family outside and smoke coming from windows at the rear of the house. They advanced a hoseline and had the fire out within minutes of their arrival, preventing any structural damage. However, there was smoke damage throughout the home and the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross - Badger Chapter.
The family's cat was brought out of the house by a firefighter who returned the cat to the family.
Damages are estimated at $10,000-$15,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.Contacts:
