Dog Safe After Falling Through Ice
March 20, 2010
A dog is happily running around the off-leash Dog Exercise Area at Warner Park after falling through the ice.
Dane County Public Safety Communications 9-1-1 Center received a call from the owner to report her dog fell through the ice at the Warner Park Pond.
The City of Madison Fire Department Scuba Team responded shortly before 4:00 p.m on Saturday, March 20th, to rescue the Golden Retriever that wandered out onto the ice while chasing after geese. The dog had gone about 150 feet before falling through the thin ice and was unable to climb back out.
Two Scuba Team members in exposure suits used the ice rescue sled to reach the dog. The dog was hanging onto the ice with its front paws when firefighters pulled the dog onto the sled. Engine 10 crew and Scuba team members then pulled the sled to shore.
The Golden Retriever was happily reunited with its owner.
