Google Announcement Points to Future of Madison's Economy

April 29, 2008

Madison - Mayor Dave Cieslewicz made the following statement in response to Google's announcement that it is opening a facility in downtown Madison:

"This is good news for our local economy and further evidence that Madison is well-positioned to create the jobs of the future. Just last week, Microsoft announced that it would also be opening a location right in downtown Madison.

"Google cited Madison's quality of life, talented workforce and commitment to education as their reasons for locating here. This shows that we are doing a lot of things right to attract good paying jobs to our community. If we want to continue to be successful, we need to redouble our efforts in these areas. We also need to aggressively implement the new economic development plan now working its way through city government which is an excellent blueprint for our future."
