City of Madison Firefighters were called to a fire at 944 Eagle Heights St. this morning at 10:37.
No one was home at the time of the fire. It was discovered by upstairs neighbors in the 6-unit structure. The neighbors reported smelling smoke and found it coming through the vents in their apartment. When they looked outside, they observed smoke coming from windows on the first floor and notified authorities. UW Police were first on scene.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the door to the apartment. When they entered, the kitchen and front room were fully charged with smoke and flames could be seen. Crews extinguished the fire within minutes, confining fire to the kitchen area.
A cause has not been determined. Damages are estimated at $30,000. There were no injuries. The family of four is being assisting by University Housing and the American Red Cross - Badger Chapter.Contacts:
