In conjunction with Independent Living, Inc., Madison Mayor Paul Soglin will be delivering Meals on Wheels Monday, March 18 in downtown Madison.
Independent Living, Inc. offers the only evening Meals on Wheels program in Dane County. While many seniors can afford the cost of a meal, many others cannot.
"I am really pleased to lend a hand to such a great organization," said Mayor Soglin. "I understand these meals are often an individual's lifeline to the outside world. While getting nutrition, they are also getting companionship. I have the utmost respect for the regular volunteers for this program and others."
Sun Prairie Mayor John Murray will be delivering meals in Sun Prairie on March 20. Dane County Executive Joe Parisi has issued a proclamation supporting the program.
Donations help subsidize the cost of meals for seniors with financial limitations, as well as support other program expenses including recruiting and training volunteers who deliver the meals. Volunteers also provide an important safety check. If a senior fails to answer the door, volunteers follow a protocol that includes an alert.Contacts:
