It's the first baby of the year - at least the first of 2012 delivered by Madison firefighters.
Engine Company 9 was called to a home on Craig Avenue at 11:40 this morning for an imminent birth.
Normally, this would be a response for Medic 9, but paramedics were busy on another call.
Lt. Gordon Berggren says often when the call comes in for imminent birth, "it's not imminent."
Today it was. The baby's head was crowning when firefighters arrived and Berggren, Apparatus Engineer David Wagner, and Firefighter Dan Madden were there to attend the birth of a healthy baby girl just two minutes later.
Medic 9 arrived moments after that to attend to the patients and transport them to St. Mary's Hospital.
This is the fourth birth and delivery Berggren has attended in 24 years as a Madison firefighter. All four members of the crew will receive pink stork pins from the Department.Contacts:
