MPD Mounted Patrol Loses Veteran Member

March 10, 2014

“Jack” passed away Friday

It is with great sadness that the Madison Police Department Mounted Patrol Unit announces that "Jack", a 12 year-old Percheron gelding and veteran member of the unit, has died.

Jack went into emergency surgery at the University of Wisconsin Equine Veterinary School on Friday, March 7th with serious colic symptoms that turned for the worse. Surgeons determined that Jack's condition was grave and Jack passed away peacefully with his 'human family in blue' by his side.

Jack was one of the largest members of the Madison Police Department- proudly serving the citizens of Madison since 2010 after being donated to the unit. Jack received his badge in 2013 by Chief Noble Wray at the annual Mounted Patrol Open House.

There will be a memorial service in Jack's honor at the annual Mounted Patrol Open House and Badge Ceremony on Sunday, April 27th at 2:00PM.
