City of Madison Fire Investigators are trying to find what caused the Rimrock Hills Rental Office to be destroyed by fire. The office portion of the building suffered major fire damage. Some contents in a storage area, which is adjacent to the office, were also destroyed.
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the building. As the crew was getting their face pieces on, they noticed the glass door was black from smoke. Flames blew out of the structure, after they broke the glass door to ventilate. They entered to extinguish the fire, where they encountered zero visibility. Ladder 1 crew ventilated the roof in order to remove the smoke and poisonous gases. Ladder 6 crew extinguished the fire within four minutes.
Cinder block walls saved the fire from spreading into the main office area of the building.
Several people called 911, when they saw smoke and flames coming from the structure at 5:15 am.
Estimated dollar loss is $35,000 for building and contents.
No one was in the building at the time, and no one was injured.
Fire is under investigation.Contacts:
