The City of Madison Fire Department will begin a new 22-week recruit class on Monday, October 11. Classes will take place at the Department's training center on the MATC-Truax campus, 1750 Pearson St. Sixteen students with diverse background and experience will be a part of the class under the direction of Department training officers.
Here are the recruits who will begin class on Monday:
Aaron Alexander has been employed full-time by the Verona Fire Department as a firefighter since September 2009. Alexander was previously employed at American Family Insurance as a Fire Safety Specialist in Madison, WI and as a maintenance person for Prairie Oaks Apts., Verona, WI. He is a 2001 graduate of Madison College (MATC) with an Associate's Degree in Fire Protection. Alexander is a WI State Certified Firefighter II, a WI State Certified Fire Inspector I and a WI State Certified Driver-Operator/ Pumper. Alexander is a current WI EMT-B with National Registry credentials.
Steven Bartunek was previously employed at Spherion of Madison, a vendor for the State of Wisconsin Department of Administration, as a billing clerk. Bartunek has been employed by Spherion since July 2008. He also volunteers with Operation Fresh Start in Madison, WI tutoring students. Bartunek graduated from Providence College in Providence, RI with a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics.
Patrick Burns was previously employed full-time at Advertisers Press in Mount Horeb, WI as a Bindery Equipment Operator since April 2009. He also worked at American Printing Company of Mount Horeb from March 2005 - February 2009. Burns is a Fire Captain with the Mount Horeb Fire Department and has been with the department for about 20 years. Burns has attended Madison College (MATC) taking Fire/EMS related courses since 1990. He is also a State of WI Firefighter II, State of Wisconsin Fire Instructor I and a State of Wisconsin EMT-B.
Lynn Etnier was previously employed full-time as a Physical Education Teacher at the Creekside Middle School in Woodstock, IL and was also a substitute teacher at Madison Metropolitan School District. Etnier graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in Eau Claire in 1986. She attended Carthage College and transferred to UW La Crosse where she obtained her BS in Physical Education. She continued her education by attending UW-Whitewater where she received her Master's in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Physical Education. Etnier also has American Red Cross CPR/AED and Lifeguard/First aid training.
Jeffery Frank Jr was previously employed with Kevin Ziegler Builders of Portage, WI as a Foreman since February 2002. He has also been member of the Maple Bluff Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter since February 2008. Frank attended Madison College (MATC) completing general studies. Frank has obtained his WI Firefighter II and Driver Operator - Pumper certification. He has also attended several fire related courses.
Tyler Goff was previously employed as a rough framer with PLS Construction of Madison, WI since July 2010 and with Tom Goff Construction since April 2000. Goff was a member of the U.S. Speed Skating Team from May 2001 - December 2009. Goff attended the University of Utah, taking general education classes.
Jeret Jenkins was previously employed full-time with Metro Medical Inc. of Loves Park IL as an EMT-B since July 2010. He also worked part-time with Metro Medical. He has been a Part-time / Paid-on-Call Firefighter with the North Park Fire Department in Machesney Park, IL. Jenkins graduated from Rock Valley College in 2008 with an Associates Degree in Fire Science. He is currently completing his paramedic certification through St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford, IL. Jenkins has obtained his IL Firefighter II and IL EMT-B.
Justin Jenkins was previously employed part-time as an EMT-Basic with Southern Green Lake County Ambulance since August 2008 and a volunteer Firefighter with the Kingston Fire Department in Kingston, WI since 2000. Jenkins has also worked as a laborer with Walker Metal Building Erectors, Appleton, WI. Jenkins graduated from Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, WI in 2009 with an Associate's Degree in Fire Protection. He has recently completed the EMT-Paramedic program through Fox Valley Technical College and obtained his Paramedic National Registry Certificate. Jenkins is currently a certified WI State Firefighter II, Driver/Operator - Pumper and Fire Inspector I and a WI State licensed EMT-B.
Matthew Klein was previously self-employed (Klein Builders) since September 1995. He was also employed by Tri-North Builders as a Job Site Superintendent and at Pizza Hut of South Central WI as a Construction/Maintenance Supervisor. Klein attended Santa Ana College in Santa Ana, CA, and completed general education and fire science courses at which time he completed their Fire Academy. Klein also completed his paramedic certification from Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa, CA.
Ty Kowalewski was previously employed full-time with RCH Communications in Pewaukee, WI as a lead technician since May 2009. He has also worked as a paid-on-call Firefighter for the Lake Country Fire Department in Delafield, WI since July 2008. He has completed 39 credits atWaukesha County Technical College, enrolled in the Fire Science program. Kowalewski is a WI State Certified Firefighter I and a WI EMT-B, and a PADI certified SCUBA diver. Kowalewski enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged after serving an eight (8) year obligation. Kowalewski's rank at the time of his discharge was Sergeant.
Patrick Masters was previously employed part-time at Local 251 Stagehands Union as a stagehand/rigger since October 2007. He also worked part-time with Boulders Climbing Gym of Madison as a manager and at Summers Christmas Tree Farm. He is formerly a volunteer with the Maple Bluff Fire Department where he was a member since June of 2008. Masters was home schooled and received his high school diploma in 2007. He attended Madison College (MATC) and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Fire Protection. He is a WI State Firefighter I, II, Driver Operator/Pumper and Fire Inspector I, as well as a WI EMT-B.
Miguel Salinas was previously a part-time Firefighter with the Eaton Fire Department in Eaton, CO since September 2009. He served as a volunteer for the Eaton Department until his part-time appointment in 2009. Salinas graduated from Aims Community College with an Associates Degree in Fire Science in 2008. He is also currently a State of CO Firefighter I and a Colorado EMT-B.
Paul Texidor was previously employed full-time with PC/Nametag Inc. in Verona, WI as a Purchasing/Vendor specialist since February 2009. He has been a volunteer Firefighter with the Verona Fire Department in Verona, WI since April 2005. Texidor graduated from Upper Iowa University in August 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration and a concentration in Fire Science. He is a WI State Certified Firefighter II and a National Registered EMT-B and completed several fire related courses. Texidor is also a certified PADI SCUBA diver. Texidor was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in October 2006 after serving an eight (8) year obligation. Texidor also served on the USAF Honor Guard
David Trieloff was previously employed full-time at Monona Plumbing & Fire Protection in Madison, WI as a fire sprinkler apprentice since July 2007. Trieloff is a former member of the Deerfield Fire Department. Trieloff is currently completing the Sprinkler Fitter Apprenticeship Program at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor MI and has attended Madison College (MATC) where he completed the Fire Fighter I and II programs.
Carolanne Trilling was previously employed part-time at Farm and Fleet in Verona, WI as a sales floor associate since August 2008. Previously, Trilling was an automobile technician. Trilling is also a paid-on-call Firefighter for the Blooming Grove Fire Department in Madison, WI and a life guard / instructor at Shorewood Hills Community Pool in Madison, WI. Trilling has completed 53 credits in the Fire Protection Program at Madison College (MATC) in Madison, WI. She holds certification as a State of WI FF II and a State of WI EMT-B.
Bradley Vogen was previously a full-time firefighter with the City of Winona MN Fire Department since December 2009. Prior to full-time employment, he was a part-time Firefighter with Winona FD from January 2006 - December 2009. Vogen also worked part-time for the Winona Area Ambulance Service in Winona MN as an EMT-P. He graduated from the Rochester Community & Technical College Paramedic Program in August 2006. Vogen is a MN State Certified Firefighter II and has attended several firefighter related courses. He is also a MN Licensed EMT-P, including National Registry EMT-P.Contacts:
