Snow Emergency Zone Expansion Goes into Effect
Monday, December 3, 2018 - 2:22pm
Greenbush and Vilas neighborhoods added to Snow Emergency Zone
The Snow Emergency Zone has expanded and the expansion will go into effect this evening at 1:00 a.m., December 4.
The expansion adds the Greenbush and Vilas neighborhoods to the Snow Emergency Zone. The expansion is comprised of the residential streets between Regent to the north and Delaplaine Court/Vilas Park Drive to the south, and between Monroe St/Edgewood Ave on the west and S. Park Street to the east.
An updated snow emergency zone map is available on City of Madison winter website. The City of Madison winter website is www.cityofmadison.com/winter.
The expansion of the snow emergency zone means those who park in these areas only need to abide by alternate side parking rules during declared snow emergencies.
All other daytime parking restrictions remain in effect.
Alternate Side Parking Rules
Alternate side parking is enforced every night from November 15 to March 15, except within the Snow Emergency Zone. Parkers within the Snow Emergency Zone must abide by alternate side parking rules only during declared snow emergencies.
The alternate side parking rules are as follows:
On even numbered days, individuals who park their vehicle on the street must have it parked on the even house-numbered side of the street between the hours of 1am and 7am.
On odd numbered days, individuals who park their vehicle on the street must have it parked on the odd house-numbered side of the street between the hours of 1am and 7am.
During declared snow emergencies, the alternate side parking ticket increases to $60 and violators may also be towed.
Keep in mind that snow emergencies are routinely two night events in order for both sides of the street to be plowed during the alternate side parking enforcement window. Snow emergencies can also be extended if weather conditions require it.
Stay Informed about the Snow
Residents can sign up to receive winter alert texts for daily alternate side parking reminders and notification of a declared snow emergency.
Residents can also sign up for email snow emergency notifications at www.cityofmadison.com/winter. Once on the site, individuals can also register for snowplow update emails for information about the Streets Division’s snow fighting operations.
