Lance Armstrong to Headline August Event
Trek President John Burke and Mayor Dave Ciewlewicz are happy to announce two Ride the Drive events this summer on June 6 and August 29. Trek sponsored athlete Lance Armstrong will headline the August event.
"Ride the Drive was among the most popular events in the time I've been mayor and I want to thank Trek for sponsoring it again this year," Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said. "This year, we'll be able to have two great events instead of one, and we're incredibly excited for Lance Armstrong to join us in August."
"Madison is one of the great cycling cities in the United States," Trek President John Burke said. "Lance Armstrong is one of the greatest cyclists in the world and to have Lance come to Madison as we open up the streets for Ride the Drive will make for an absolutely spectacular event. We are very pleased he will be joining us in Madison and celebrating our bicycle friendly community and all it has to offer."
Ride the Drive is a community event that will transforms some of Madison's streets into a public promenade. During the event, roads will be closed to vehicle traffic, allowing participants to bike, skate or walk through some of Madison's signature streets.
The June 6 event will feature the same 6 mile course as last year, open from 10am to 4pm. The August 29 event will begin with the Trek Time Trials on an 11 mile course from 7am to 12pm. At 12pm, Trek sponsored athlete Lance Armstrong will lead the opening ride of the course to the public. The course will stay open from 12pm to 4pm.
In the coming weeks, the city will continue to work with neighborhoods and businesses to address any questions or concerns they have about the event.
