When the highest bidders sit down for lunch at Station #7 tomorrow it will connect the links on an unusual chain of "pay-it-forward" acts.
Some months ago, firefighters at Station #7 at 1810 McKenna Blvd. offered "Lunch with the Firefighters" as an auction item to benefit Gio's Garden. Gio's Garden's mission as a non-profit organization is to nurture and strengthen families with special needs children (birth to 6 years) by increasing their access to needed services.
The winning bidder turned out to be Kelly Fischer of Bear Courage. Bear Courage is a non-profit organization serving seriously ill children and their families. Both organizations depend heavily on both charitable donations and volunteers.
Fischer's move to bid on the lunch had a dual purpose: both to support Gio's Garden, and to show appreciation to the volunteers of Bear Courage.
Those volunteers will be on the receiving end of food and service at Firehouse #7 tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., emergency calls permitting.
To complete the circle of giving, Fire Fighters Local 311 Charities is picking up the tab for the food.Contacts:
