Outdoor Fires Prohibited In The City of Madison
The City of Madison Fire Department is prohibiting the use of outdoor fires until weather conditions change. Approved outdoor fireplaces and fire pits shall not be used. Prairie and/or natural lawn burns, even those with a permit from the City of Madison Fire Department, shall not be conducted.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has put an Emergency Burning Restriction on most of the state. The DNR burning conditions show VERY HIGH in our area. Very High is defined as very dangerous conditions. Fires start easily, spread very rapidly, crown and spot. Very difficult to control. Burning is not recommended. The National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office (NOAA) states that there is a very dry airmass that remains in place across the upper Midwest today. Dewpoints will remain very low. This afternoon they are expecting strong gusts reaching 35 to 40 mph.
