Community Budget Conversations Underway This Week
The City of Madison is once again holding a series of Community Budget Conversations at various locations throughout the city. These public meetings are designed to encourage citizen involvement in the city budget process. Last year hundreds of citizens participated in the meetings or filled out the online survey. This year's meetings are being held earlier, so that citizen input will be available to city staff as they begin work on their budgets in May.
Dates and locations are as follows:
• Thursday, April 12, 7-9pm Warner Park Recreation Center 1625 Northport Drive
• Monday, April 16, 7-9pm Olbrich Gardens Evjue Commons 3330 Atwood Avenue
• Thursday, April 26, 7-9pm Madison Senior Center 330 West Mifflin Street
• Monday, April 30, 7-9pm Wright Middle School Gym 1717 Fish Hatchery Road
• Wednesday, May 2, 7-9pm Toki Middle School 5606 Russett Road
This year there will also be a meeting specifically geared for University of Wisconsin students on Wednesday, April 11, from 3:30-5:30 in the Student Activity Room at the Lucky, 333 E. Campus Mall.
Mayor Soglin, members of the Common Council, and city staff will attend the meetings to provide information on the budget and to answer questions. Additional information is on the city website at http://www.cityofmadison.com/budgetProcess/.
Those who are unable to attend one of the meetings are encouraged to fill out the online survey on the city's website. In addition, the city will provide a toolkit for neighborhood associations or other groups that would like to hold their own budget meetings.
