Weeklong Library Celebrations to Kick Off
New Director to Begin
Madison Public Library will kick off a series of Library Celebration Weeks today, beginning with activities at the Monroe Street Library through Saturday, September 8.
Each week through early November, the nine locations of Madison Public Library will take turns having a week in the spotlight so visitors can learn about the many resources available at each location. Activities include programs, a chance to learn about the library's history and unique features, and a seek-and-find adventure with the opportunity to win surprise gifts throughout the week.
The Library Celebration Week schedule is as follows:
September 4-8, Monroe Street September 10-15, Goodman South Madison September 17-22, Lakeview September 24-29, Hawthorne October 1-6, Alicia Ashman October 7-13, Sequoya October 15-20, Central October 22-27, Meadowridge October 28-November 4, Pinney
During each celebration week, there will be a reception with new library director Greg Mickells, who begins his position today. Mickells was most recently assistant library director for the Lincoln City Libraries in Lincoln, Neb., and was library manager in the Douglas County Libraries in Castle Rock, Colo., prior to that.
Last month, the library unveiled a colorful new logo that symbolizes the everexpanding breadth of services offered at Madison's nine public libraries. Library cards featuring the new logo will be available later this month, which is also the national Library Card Sign-up Month. Cards are free for new card applicants or $1 for current cardholders who opt to replace existing Madison Public Library cards.
A complete schedule of the director reception dates and times for each library is available at www.madisonpubliclibrary.org/director.
