Members of the Madison Speed Skating Club will lead this workshop for beginners and provide some basic information about skating, choosing equipment, and proper technique. In addition, there will be demos and a chance to practice on the ice. Bring your own skates or skate rentals will be available on site on a first-come basis at the shelter. All ages and experience levels welcome.
• Mark your calendars for Friday's Ice Skating Party at Tenney Park -
January 27, 6p.m. - 8p.m.
Come experience the fun and beauty of skating under the lights with music and games. Our warming houses and concessions will be open as well and skate rentals will be available on a first-come basis. All ages and experience levels welcome. Grab your friends, a date, or the whole family and come have some fun on the ice.
Sledding Hills - If there is snow on the hill, you are welcome to go sledding. After your sledding hill run at Elver Park - stop in, warm up and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa at the concession area in the warming shelter. Remember, sledding is at your own risk, exit the bottom of the hill and walk up the sides of the hill.
Ski Trails - Staff re-groomed the skating lanes at Elver Park and Odana Hills Golf Course on Tuesday. More snow is needed before staff can set tracks. Conditions are best suited to skate skiing. The lights will be on at Elver. All other ski trails in the parks remain ungroomed.
Snowshoeing - Snowshoers must stay on the trails. Please note snowshoes are not allowed on cross country ski trails at anytime. Madison Parks does not rent snowshoes.
Please keep in mind that there needs to be sufficient snow to create a base for snowshoeing. The woods generally need more snow to fall because the trees protect the trails. For a list of parks to snowshoe in: http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/snowshoeing/
