Mayor Kicks off Tenney Shelter Fundraising Campaign

posted

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, city officials and the Tenney Park Shelter Group kicked off a fundraising campaign for the new Tenney Park Shelter today. After 50 years of community use, the Tenney Park Shelter Group is leading efforts to build a new shelter at Tenney Park. Today, the group began their tile campaign, selling tiles to the public that will be part of the new park shelter. "Tenney Park is one of our most historic and beloved city parks. From weddings to family reunions, from summer sports to winter ice skating, there is no doubt Tenney Park has always been a center of activity in our City and has left an indelible impact on our community," Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said. "The City of Madison is excited to support the fundraising efforts for a new Tenney Park Shelter." Mayor Cieslewicz and Parks Superintendent Kevin Briski were the first to purchase tiles at today's event. "Tenney Park is one of Madison's most historic city parks," Briski said. "We are excited by the plans for a new shelter that is fitting for this historic and beloved park." The current park shelter, built in 1958, is heavily used by the community in all seasons. And after 50 years of such active use, the shelter is in need of replacement. Working collaboratively with city officials, the Tenney Park neighborhood and the greater community, the Tenney Park Shelter Group has designed a plan for a new shelter that would serve Madison for generations to come. Tiles range in size and cost ranging from $150 to $2500 and can be purchased through the Tenney Park Shelter Group at their event on Saturday, March 7, at Manna Cafe, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. "We've had so much support from the community to build a new shelter at Tenney Park, and through this campaign, people can not only support our fundraising efforts, but they can also have a lasting piece of the new shelter," Mary Lang Sollinger, chair of the Tenney Park Shelter Group, said.
