University Avenue-Gorham Street-Broom Street Construction Project

Beginning Monday, March 16, 2009, City Engineering along with Homburg Contractors will begin reconstruction of the Gorham Street-University Avenue Corridor. The project is expected to last through September. Additional phases of construction will begin on the corridor in May. The construction project will include replacement of utilities located beneath the street as well as replacement of all lanes of pavement. Construction of this phase will impact traffic as follows: 1.) Gorham Street from State Street to Bassett Street: Traffic will be reduced to one lane of traffic at State Street at all times of the day. 2.) University Avenue - from Bassett Street to Park Street: Traffic will be reduced to two lanes of traffic at all times of the day. 3.) Broom Street - from Johnson to Gorham: Traffic will be reduced to one lane of traffic at Johnson Street at all times of the day. 4.) Broom Street - from State Street to Gorham Street: Broom Street will be operated as a one-way street from State Street to Gorham Street. Bicycle route detours will be posted along these routes. Information as well as updates can be found on the University Avenue Construction Project Website: www.cityofmadison.com/engineering/universityavenue. The traveling public can sign up to receive email updates on the construction project as well as find information on parking provided by the Madison Business Improvement District. Severe delays are expected during peak commuting times on both the Gorham-University Avenue Corridor and the Broom Street Corridor for the duration of this project. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes during the construction project. Access to all businesses as well as City of Madison Parking ramps and lots will be maintained at all times during the construction project. ####### ___________________________________________________ David C.
