MPD To Offer Free Classes
New technology and electronic social interactions are drastically transforming the world we know today. Like never before in history, our entire world is connected. Technology is not going away and in fact surrounds us with our daily activities. We can go to the grocery store and find we are no longer are greeted with a check out person but rather an automated scanner. If we want money, we can go to the ATM. We can even obtain a college degree by going online and entering a virtual classroom without leaving our home. Turn on the news or open the paper and we see daily reports around the country of Identity Theft, Sexting, Cyber-bullying, and Cyber-stalking. We would be naive to believe that this does not exist within our own community. It is the commitment of the Madison Police Department to be pro-active and pre-emptive with the emerging trends that we see with new technology. I think everyone would agree that it is advantageous to know when something is going to happen before it does. It allows us the time to plan. It is our goal to give the citizens a plan through education and knowledge, so they safely can use the Internet, Cell Phones, Text Messaging, My Space and Face book. We are happy to announce that the Madison Police Department will be offering free classes on Internet Safety, Text Messaging, My Space and Face book. These classes are free but require registration and will be held at various locations throughout the City. Our department is working in partnerships with area businesses, the Madison Public Library, the Boys and Girls Club, and community centers that have donated their computer labs to make this happen. The new forms of technology introduced into our lives can be safe and reliable as long as we educate our families, the community, and our children about the advantages and risks associated with each program.
