Madison Police Continue To Give Back

Recent Fundraiser To Help Women Leave Prostitution

On September 25, 2009, The Madison Professional Police Officers Association (MPPOA) and Association of Madison Police Supervisors (AMPS) held their 10th Annual Charity Golf Outing at the Meadows of Six Mile Creek in Waunakee. This event raised over $13,000 for this year's beneficiaries, Project Respect, and the City of Madison Police Department's (MPD) Mounted Patrol Unit. Project Respect provides a safe environment and essential community services for women who are trying to leave prostitution: peer support, advocacy, case management, counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy are all part of Project Respect. The goal is to address a woman's health, economic, and family needs, so she can develop a safe, constructive lifestyle. The MPD Mounted patrol unit regularly works in the downtown area, to help manage bar crowds and other issues. Mounted officers also frequent special events; assist in search and rescue efforts, and are called on to make community/public appearances. Since 1999, the MPPOA and AMPS - the unions representing commissioned personnel of the City of Madison Police Department - have organized, with great help from MPD civilian staff, an annual charity golf event to raise money for a variety of local, non-profit charities. To date, over $90,000 has been raised for: • The Ronald McDonald House • The Law Enforcement Memorial • The Susan G Komen Foundation • Safe Harbor • UW Children's Hospital • Madison Area Crime Stoppers • Hospice • Capital K-9's • Dane County Victim/Witness • Meals on Wheels • Dane County's Crime Response Program • RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) of Dane County Volunteer • The Foundation for Madison's Public School's High School Athletics Endowment Fund • Project Respect • The MPD Mounted Patrol The men and women of the Madison Police Department, both commissioned and non-commissioned, are proud to share a strong sense of community here in Madison and recognize the importance of doing their part to support charitable organizations that make a positive difference for the community.
