Goodman Pool Breaks Even

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Madison Parks are proud to announce that the Goodman Pool reached its financial budget target of breaking even. Each of the last three years, major strides have been made toward the Goodman Pool operate without city subsidy. "There are very few municipal pools anywhere that break even. This is a very significant accomplishment, and it happened during a summer with less than ideal weather. It is a testament to pool management from Superintendent Kevin Briski on down," Mayor Cieslewicz said. "Madison Parks has done an outstanding job of managing the Goodman Pool and providing family activities, swim lessons and promotions throughout the summer." "The success of Goodman Pool this year is also a testament to our dedicated staff who made each day a fun and safe aquatic experience," Kevin Briski, Madison Parks Superintendent, said. "Many of us had faith from the beginning that the Goodman Pool would be a win for the city and its residents," Alder Judy Compton said. "We have certainly proven that today." Despite the very chilly July, Madison Parks staff was able to capitalize on the days it was warm and great for swimming. By using staff in an effective and efficient way, daily and hourly costs were kept under control on the days the pool was open and closed. The pool enjoyed the continued support of community donations, Goodman Brothers scholarship endowments and the Madison Parks Foundation . Over 2000 children were able to learn to swim and enjoy the pool this summer thanks to this continued support. Goodman Pool also went green when it came to heating the pool this year. In the beginning of the season, ambient air temperature was used to heat the water. Once the water and air temperature were equal, only then were the heaters were turned on to finish the job. This not only saved money but also saved on energy. Madison Parks also started a new marketing plan this season. By partnering with many area businesses and organizations, Madison Parks offered special promotions throughout the season. "Madison Parks staff wants to thank Roundy's, Dental Health Associates, St. Mary's Hospital, Madison Fire Department, Madison Mallards and Schoepp's Ice Cream for their sponsorship of a Family Fun Day in 2009 and we look forward many more in 2010," Briski said.
