CAPITOL SQUARE PROTESTS

posted

For Thursday, March 10th

Large numbers of demonstrators have come to the Capitol Square again today. The Madison Police Department (MPD) would urge those expressing First Amendment rights to do so peacefully, and to respect the Wisconsin State Capitol building. It is a state icon, a cherished historic property, which everyone - no matter their politics - should help protect. The MPD continues to work with other law enforcement - through a joint command post - trying to ensure the safety of civilians and politicians on both sides of this energy fueled bill. The men and women of law enforcement are appreciative of the fact that the vast majority of demonstrators are continuing to assemble without violence. As has been the case, contingency plans are in place to close roads in the Capitol Square area to vehicular traffic, depending on crowd numbers.
