Fire Causes $100,000 Damage to Home

Nobody was home at 2202 Aspen Road when fire struck the home this morning. A neighbor noticed smoke coming from the single family home and called 911 to report the fire that caused an estimated $100,000 damage. The Madison Fire Department was dispatched at 10:03 AM and firefighters from Station 7 arrived six minutes later. When the fire attack crew entered the home they encountered thick smoke which reduced visibility to only six inches. While they searched for the flames, other crews removed windows and cut holes in the roof to relieve the heavy smoke from the building and improve visibility. Firefighters searched the home twice to make sure nobody was in the building. No injuries were reported at the fire scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Firefighters remind everyone of these safety tips: • Install smoke alarms on every level of the home, in each bedroom, and outside each bedroom. • Test your smoke alarms every month. • Make an escape plan and have a fire drill to practice your plan. • When the alarm sounds, get out and stay out. • After you have escaped, call 9-1-1 from a safe place. • Never go back inside the building for any reason.
