MFD Assistant Chief Part of Deployment to New Jersey

More than a week after Hurricane Sandy made landfall on the New Jersey shore, a contingent from the Wisconsin-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (WI-1 DMAT) remains deployed to the east coast to assist in relief efforts. This Hurricane Sandy emergency strike team consists of a number of medical professionals from across the state of Wisconsin. Among them is City of Madison Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Jim Keiken from the Madison Fire Department. The Madison Fire Department is proud to contribute to disaster preparedness and response. The team was deployed on Saturday, November 3. WI-1 DMAT is part of a federally-coordinated system that provides medical capabilities in the event of a large-scale emergency that overwhelms normal local and state medical resources. A Disaster Medical Assistance Team consists of medical, logistical, and administrative personnel, as well as all of the equipment required to deliver medical care in an austere environment.
