Brush Collection Begins April 1st

The Streets Division will begin brush collection on Monday April 1st. Again this year there will be no set schedule for brush collection. Our crews will be using the same collection rotation we use for leaf collection. Streets Division crews will begin collecting brush in Monday's refuse collection districts. After completing collection in Monday's area, crews will move into the Tuesday districts, then Wednesday's districts, followed by the Thursday and then Friday refuse districts. Upon completion of Friday's refuse district, crews will begin the cycle again in Monday's district. The time it takes us to complete a round of collection will vary according to workload and equipment availability. In the past, we completed a round of collection each month. We estimated that it will take us 3 to 5 weeks per round this year. Brush collection will continue until mid October. At that time, we will be diverting all of our crews to fall leave collection. Brush Collection Guidelines The brush collection program serves property owners who maintain their own property collection and is provided monthly, April through mid October, for tree trimmings. Material cut by contractors will NOT be collected. Please make arrangements with the contractor for material disposal. 1) All material collected is chipped and recycled as mulch or compost. To keep program costs down and prevent damage to equipment, please follow the collection rules. 2) Brush is tree and shrub trimmings over 18" in length. Brush May not exceed 8' length and 8" diameter. 3) Remove all roots, stumps and dirt. 4) Place brush on the terrace at the street edge away from trees, parked cars, fire hydrants, utility poles, mailboxes and other obstructions. Do not put brush in the street. 5) Stack brush with the cut ends facing the same direction. DO NOT PUT BRUSH IN BAGS, BOXES, OR TRASH CONTAINERS. You can also get complete information from our web site www.cityofmadison.com/streets. Brush Drop Off Sites The City of Madison has two brush drop off sites. The sites are located at 1501 W. Badger Rd and 4602 Sycamore Av. The sites are currently open winter hours M-F from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Starting Saturday March 29 the sites will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They will be open on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The sites are for the use of City of Madison residents only. People wishing to use the sites should have some identification that shows they either live or own property in the City of Madison. Wood Mulch Program The City of Madison is no longer supplying free wood mulch at area parks. Madison residents can get up to 30 gallons of free wood mulch at the City Transfer station. Contractors and non residents can purchase wood mulch at the City Transfer Station 121 E. Olin Av. It is possible to have large amounts of wood mulch loaded into your truck at our processing center at 121 E. Olin Ave. The facility is open M-F from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
