Madison's Central Library Returning to 201 W. Mifflin Street

Grand Opening Weekend Set for September 21-22

The interim Central Library at 126 S. Hamilton Street will close to the public on August 31 at 5 pm. The Central Library will reopen at 201 W. Mifflin Street on September 21 at 9:30 am, following a 9 am ribbon cutting ceremony. The library will celebrate its opening with a Grand Opening Weekend celebration on September 21 and 22. Hours at 201 W. Mifflin Street will be Mondays-Thursdays 9 am - 9 pm, Fridays 9 am - 6 pm, Saturdays 9 am - 5 pm and Sundays 1 - 5 pm (September 22 - May). The main phone number will be the same: 608-266-6300. Central Library customers are encouraged to contact library staff before August 30 for assistance in transferring their holds to another location during the closure or inactivating their holds until the Central Library opens at 201 W. Mifflin St. Holds that have been placed for Madison PL - Central will be available at 126 S. Hamilton Street until the last week of August. After the last week of August, holds for Madison PL - Central will be available at the Hawthorne Library (2707 E. Washington Ave.) until September 20. All holds for Madison PL - Central will be available at 201 W. Mifflin St. starting September 21. Central Library customers may return library materials to 126 S Hamilton St. until August 30 or may return items to the new Central Library on 201 W. Mifflin St., (Mifflin Street book drop only). Library materials may also be returned to any other public library in the South Central Library System. The Central Library will reopen with a series of private and public events in September, including the Foreword grand opening gala fundraiser on September 7, the STACKED! fundraiser on September 19, and the public Grand Opening Weekend on September 21 and September 22.
