No Injuries in Southside Apartment Fire

Damages Estimated at $150,000

City of Madison firefighters were called to 1120 Moorland Rd this morning for a fire at Nob Hill Apartments. Crews were dispatched at 1:18 a.m. Several occupants were standing outside and alarms were sounding. Upon entry into the building, Ladder Company 6 encountered heavy smoke. Crews used a thermal imaging camera (TIC) to help them locate the fire in a first floor apartment at 1118 Moorland. Four addresses are assigned to the two-story building. Due to the size of the building, and possible trapped occupants, a second alarm was called. Using aggressive firefighting tactics, crews were able to bring the fire under control within 12 minutes of arrival and the alarm was struck out. Additional companies were returned to quarters after making sure all residents were safe and accounted for. The building pull station alarm was activated by a resident on the second floor who awoke when the smoke detector alarm in his apartment woke him. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damages are estimated at $150,000. 00. Some areas of the building remain unstable and occupants of those areas are being assisted by the American Red Cross Badger Chapter.
