Joint effort brings hydration stations to half of Madison’s elementary schools

By the end of this school year, half of Madison elementary schools and three middle schools will have water bottle refilling stations thanks to the “Got Water?” project, aimed at helping kids make healthy beverage choices by giving them easy access to water. “Got Water?” is a joint initiative from Madison Water Utility, the Healthy Kids Collaborative, American Family Children's Hospital, and the Madison Metropolitan School District.

Now in its 4th year, the “Got Water?” project has brought hydration stations to 13 schools across Madison, with six more stations set to be installed this spring. The 2018 Got Water schools were notified this week. They are: Kennedy, Muir, Crestwood, Lapham, Lowell, and Cherokee Heights Middle. Before “Got Water?” began in 2015, no Madison elementary or middle schools had water bottle refilling stations. After this school year, a total of 16 elementaries and three middle schools will have stations because of the program.

At school-wide celebrations in the spring, “Got Water?” partners will also hand out thousands of new water bottles to make sure each and every child and staff member can use the stations.

2015: Huegel, Leopold, Elvehjem
2016: Allis, Lindbergh, Lake View
2017: Orchard Ridge, Falk, Schenk, Gompers, Glendale, Wright Middle, Sherman Middle
2018: Kennedy, Muir, Crestwood, Lapham, Lowell, Cherokee Heights Middle.
