Automatic Sprinkler Extinguishes Fire In East Side Storage Room
Incident Details
An automatic fire sprinkler is credited for catching and extinguishing an accidental fire at an east side shelter.
Engine Co. 5 was dispatched to 4006 Nakoosa Trail to investigate a fire alarm. The call was upgraded to a full structure fire response upon reports that sprinklers had activated in the building.
Crews arrived to find water flowing out from a storage room. Inside, a number of items, including clothing and cardboard boxes, were damaged from fire but the fire was already out. Investigators determined the fire started as a result of stored items being placed too close to a heating source in that room. The fire generated enough radiant heat to activate a nearby sprinkler head, resulting in prompt extinguishment prior to MFD’s arrival.
The fire was contained to the area of origin, and nobody was injured or displaced.
