2017 Bordner Park Playground Replacement is complete!
Contractor Madison Commercial Landscapes will be installing the benches to the concrete pads the week of 9/25/17 and subcontractor Dressen Decks & Patios will be returning to the site within 1-2 weeks to install the Cozy Cocoon item that will be connected to one of the overhead bar posts (an incorrect coupling mechanism was sent with the rest of the equipment by the manufacturer) but all other components of the playground installation are complete!
The straw matting will assist in the growth of the grass seed underneath - please help Parks to "regreen" the Bordner Playground by using the new accessible path connector to enter the playground.
Work on the site is on schedule and is anticipated to take approximately 4 weeks from the start time at the end of August and will include removal and re-installation of some playground equipment (tire swing) in addition to the installation of new double-bay swing and main play structure, new wood chip surfacing, edge restraints, benches and an accessible connector path to the park's main walking loop.
Updates on the construction progress - including pictures - will be posted to this site as they are available.
The Parks Division held two public input meetings regarding the project: the first as part of the 2017 Playgrounds Group 2 Workshop on November 3, 2016 and a follow-up session with the neighborhood on November 17, 2016.
At the second meeting, attendees asked for a revision to the Option #1 design that would take items from the Option #2 proposal presented and merge them into a single concept. Were this concept to exceed the available budget for the project, a cost difference was to be provided for consideration by the neighborhood to add extra funding to obtain the desired equipment or to reduce item(s) as necessary to meet the project budget.
The revised proposal is posted below. This option adds $542 to the $25,000 base equipment and the Board of the Wisconsin Cooperative Housing Authority (WCHA) has offered to meet this difference. As such, the option shown below will be the equipment that is installed at Bordner Park in 2017!
